Step into the 16th Century Painted Room, where history comes to life! This stunning room, once used as a Court of Piepowder, features incredible paintings from the mid-1500s—designed to imitate the luxurious tapestries found in aristocratic homes. The building itself, now home to the Town Council, was originally built as a new Booth Hall.
Our friendly guides are ready to share fun stories and insights about the artwork, and you can even see a new display showing how the paintings would have looked in their prime (funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund).
For the little ones, we've got exciting Tudor-themed fun! Kids aged 7-9 can dress up in authentic costumes, try their hand at the stocks, and throw soft knitted fruits and veggies! Don’t forget to snap a pic in our new Tudor Face in Hole board—perfect for a fun family photo op!
