Ledbury Town Council's Website - For Local Residents and Visitors.

Welcome to the Ledbury Town Council website where you will find information about our Historic Market Town as well as agendas and minutes of all Council Meetings.

Ledbury has a wealth of History and is admired for its architecture and picturesque surroundings, not to mention the individual shops, open houses and cafes boasting fresh and locally grown produce, but don't take our word for it.. come and see for yourself!

Dating back to the Domesday Book, where it was recorded as LiedebergeIt is believed that Ledbury takes its name from the River Leadon, on which it stands. Ledbury still upholds most of its traditions including the Charter Market which was issued by King Stephen to Bishop Robert de Bethune in 1138 and in 1584 Queen Elizabeth granted a new charter, allowing a weekly market on Tuesday and two fairs. In 1617 a group of local citizens bought some property ‘at or near a place called the Corner End’ and here built the new Market House.
Today the market is held on a Tuesday and Saturday weekly where traders sell their wares of plants, local produce and unique gifts. For more information on the Charter Market please click HERE.
