In the late 1850s, Ledbury Parish Church's graveyard at St. Michaels and All Angels reached capacity, prompting local authorities to find a new burial site in accordance with the 1857 Burial Act. A two-and-a-half-acre plot at the bottom of New Street was purchased, and the new cemetery was consecrated in 1861.
The chapel, open for Heritage Open Days, was originally designed for the cemetery and is built of local stone with Bath stone accents. The smaller chapel, now a mortuary, also features the same stonework.
Inside, the chapel has a raised platform with a reading desk for the minister and seating along both sides for mourners and bearers. A small vestry, with oak doors and ornamental hinges matching the chapel's main doors, adds charm. The vestry also boasts an attractive turret and bell. The cemetery grounds were designed in a landscaped garden style, with winding paths, trees, shrubs, and flowerbeds, offering a peaceful setting for reflection and remembrance.
