Ledbury Town Council organised a fun-packed day of activities centred around literature and imagination, with the aim of inspiring families and encouraging a love of storytelling and creativity.
One of the highlights of the day was an author workshop with local author John Dougherty, delivered in partnership with Ledbury Library. John had the whole room engaged as he performed his hilarious and energetic poems, encouraging participation from both children and adults and creating plenty of laughter along the way.
Ledbury was also delighted to welcome the acclaimed Aardman team, who hosted clay modelling workshops in celebration of 50 years of Aardman. These sessions were fully booked, with participants creating their own models of Gromit, Feathers McGraw and Shaun the Sheep- a perfect afternoon activity for stop-motion animation enthusiasts.
Over at The Burgage Hall, Masefield Matters hosted a range of free activities including arts workshops with Red Earth Arts and storytelling sessions with Imaginellie, giving families even more opportunities to get creative.
Ledbury Primary School also opened its gates to welcome families for a series of wonderful craft activities inspired by Where the Wild Things Are, including mask-making, drawing and dancing.
Meanwhile, the Ledbury–Stromstad Twinning Association hosted Swedish storytelling in the Market House, which was very warmly received by visitors.
Throughout the day there was a fantastic buzz in the town, and it was great to speak to so many people who had travelled from neighbouring towns and even further afield to take part, with many arriving via the Daffodil Line.
Ledbury Town Council also teamed up with Lakefest to offer an exciting prize for the best-dressed book character. The winner, Delilah McRae, impressed everyone with her fantastic Far Away Magical Tree themed costume and took home tickets to this year’s Lakefest. The competition was judged by the Chairman of Ledbury Town Council, Councillor Harvey, Lee Martin the founder of Lakefest and the Town Clerk.
In addition, several books written by Lakefest founder Lee Martin were hidden around the town for families to find, each containing special prizes — adding an extra element of adventure to the day.
Overall, the event was a huge success, bringing creativity, imagination and community spirit to the heart of Ledbury.
