Former Mayor Presents Cheques to Chosen Charities

Former Mayor of Ledbury Presents Cheques to Charities Following Successful Year of Fundraising

On Saturday, 2 August 2025, Former Mayor of Ledbury (2024/25), Councillor Stephen Chowns, proudly presented cheques to his two chosen charities, marking the end of a successful year of charitable fundraising.

The total raised during Councillor Chowns’ municipal year amounted to £4,334.86, which has been equally split between Ledbury Refugee Support and the Alzheimer's Society, with each charity receiving £2,167.43.

Ledbury Refugee Support is a local volunteer-led initiative dedicated to welcoming and supporting refugees and asylum seekers in the Ledbury area. The group provides practical assistance, friendship, and community integration opportunities to families who have experienced displacement and trauma.

The Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading dementia charity, providing support and guidance to people affected by dementia. The funds raised could help deliver services such as ‘Singing for the Brain’ – therapeutic sessions that promote wellbeing and joy through music for individuals living with dementia and their carers.

Councillor Chowns extended his thanks to everyone who contributed to or attended his charity events throughout the year. He expressed his deep appreciation for the generosity and support shown by the community, which made the fundraising efforts such a success.

Representatives from both charities attended the cheque presentation, expressing their gratitude for the support. The event served as a meaningful follow-up to Councillor Chowns’ mayoral year, which concluded in early May, and during which community spirit and compassion were at the heart of his fundraising efforts.
