Heritage Open Days with Masefield Matters
Masefield Around Ledbury
Join us for a range of exciting events around Ledbury during Heritage Open Days 2025! We will be opening the John Masefield Archive alongside the John Masefield Society and working with the Ledbury Poetry to explore the heritage of local poets. We have also released a new walking map of Ledbury featuring the places important to Masefield and those inspired by him. See the map below for a short circular walk around the town.

The John Masefield Archive
Join Masefield Matters in a rare public opening of the John Masefield Society archive during Heritage Open Days. Explore Ledbury, Masefield’s life and work, and the causes that were important to him through the range of books, correspondence, and artwork that until now have been hidden behind closed doors. Drop in during the week to find out more about Ledbury’s forgotten poet and how his childhood in the town shaped his career.

During Heritage Open Days, Ledbury Poetry are offering the opportunity to explore their home, the Barrett Browning Institute, and its past. Visitors can be part of reimagining what it can be for Ledbury in the future. Open Tuesday to Saturday with short tours of the building on Friday and Saturday enabling you to see areas usually behind the scenes. As a key part of Ledbury's poetic heritage, information about John Masefield will be featured in the Poetry House throughout Heritage Open Days.
