Economic Development and Planning Committee

The Economic Development and Planning Committee (ED&P) manages the ED&P budget. This committee deals with planning matters; the Parish (or Town) Plan; traffic management; street names and town signs; emergency planning; job fairs; internal town transport; the Charter Market; and tourism.

  1. The ED&P has the delegated function to ‘examine and comment upon’ planning applications. It scrutinises the local planning applications which go before Herefordshire Council for final decision making. We provide a local view which Herefordshire Council (HC) will take notice of when it can, although our recommendations are purely advisory. HC is the designated Planning Authority and is responsible for the final decisions.

ED&P is also consulted on car parking charges by Herefordshire Council, the recommendations are purely advisory.

Proposed letter to Secretary of State – Councillor Howells

That the Economic Development & Planning Committee agree to a letter being sent from this Council to the Secretary of State jointly signed by Councillors Bannister, Harvey and Howells identifying and summarising the Council’s case for why a second access to the Viaduct site is desirable and necessary and that he refuse the appeal to allow a single access only, but confirm he will agree to the development on condition that a second access under the Viaduct is included in any planning application.
